Though we’ll still stay largely in the 60s in the afternoon, it will feel better with the direct sunshine on the skin. High pressure comes through just in time for the home opener of the Charleston Dirty Birds, with sunshine at the first pitch and clear skies in the evening. Friday morning will start in the 40s too, but we’ll jump to the mid 70s as the winds now turn around out of the more favorable south. This warming trend will continue into the weekend.
NWS: Kanawha County now most ‘tornado prone’ in West Virginia
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) — Kanawha County has been the county most prone to tornadoes in the region, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston. The declaration comes after the NWS in Charleston updated its Natural Hazard Risk Assessment to include the severe storms and tornadoes that tore through the Tri-State on April 2. Kanawha County now has the most tornadoes on record with 16 tornadoes that have occurred between 1875 and April 2024, according to the NWS.
