5-year-old critically hurt in ORV crash in Wexford County
WEXFORD COUNTY, Mich. — A 5-year-old was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital after a utility vehicle overturned and crashed northwest of Cadillac last week. Registration opens for 2024 Swim for Grand Traverse Bay
TRAVERSE CITY - Registration is now open for 2024′s swim for Grand Traverse Bay. The event takes place in August 10th and features a 2 mile open water swim off the shore of Traverse City. The proceeds from registration go towards the watershed center grand traverse bay, a non-profit that works to preserve and protect the body of water that is the region’s claim to fame. The swim will start and end at Greilickville Harbor Park in Elmwood Township. “The whole goal of the watershed Center really is to protect and preserve the watershed which includes the bay and all of the rivers and streams and the lakes that connect to it,” says Watershed Center Grand Traverse Bay Executive Director Christine Crissman. “And so to be able to get people out, actually enjoying it, so swimming in the water that they’re trying to protect these swimmers are also helping to fundraise for the watershed center as well.” The registration fee is 45 dollars per swimmer. Traverse City streams to be treated for invasive sea lampreys
TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Federal environmental regulators will spend late June treating an up-north stream to kill invasive sea lamprey larvae from the Great Lakes. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials will use lampricides in Kids Creek and the Boardman River in Traverse City to destroy the lamprey larvae burrowed into the stream bed. The work will be done in the Lake Michigan tributaries between June 18-27, depending on weather conditions.

KALKASKA, MI – A new trailhead and connection to the North Country National Scenic Trail are under construction in the village of Kalkaska, WPBN/WGTU reports. The $550,000 project includes the trailhead, and a wheelchair-accessible, non-motorized trail with a boardwalk and a bridge that crosses the Boardman River, the report said. It will connect the town to the iconic trail that runs through New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota.
