Alaska House passes bill that would put more guardrails on property assessments
The Alaska House of Representatives passed a bill on Wednesday that would put more guardrails around the state’s property assessment process. Last year, many residents in Juneau and Haines said they saw steep jumps in their property assessments — large enough that some questioned whether their assessors were being transparent and fair. Rep. Julie Coulombe, an Anchorage Republican who sponsored the bill, said the bill would tackle some of their concerns.

Douglas-Dornan Foundation Fund at Juneau Community Foundation invites grant proposals
A donor-advised fund of the Juneau Community Foundation, the Douglas-Dornan Foundation Fund was originally established in honor of Brian Douglas and Wythe Dornan, who moved to Juneau in late 1989 to pursue their dreams and were actively involved in the community during the few short years they lived there. In addition to volunteer work at the Glory Hole and for environmental causes, the couple acted as foster parents for several native Alaskan children. Both Brian and Wythe suffered untimely deaths at the age of 27 in late 1993.
