First-time author debuts haunting book at music fest
JOSHUA TREE — Making a trek from Kentucky all the way to the Hi-Desert, Bill Stark will release his first book at the Joshua Tree Music Festival May 16-19. His literary debut, “In Shadows Canyon Red: Our Haunted Cabin in the Red River Gorge,” chronicles the paranormal experiences and hauntings that he and his wife, Charisse, experience in their cabin in Kentucky.
Restaurant inspections: Cockroach infestation closes Palm Springs spot; 2 eateries earn 'B'
A Palm Springs restaurant was shut down by Riverside County health inspectors due to an active cockroach infestation, according to reports conducted April 25 through May 1. An inspector observed several live cockroaches at Monsoon Indian Restaurant during a recent inspection, leading to the facility closure. The restaurant also had issues with hot and cold food holding temperatures, as well as other minor violations.
North Indian Canyon set to reopen Friday
North Indian Canyon Dr. at Pierson in Desert Hot Springs will reopen on Friday, May 3rd, 2024. The road has been closed since it was devastated by Hilary in August of 2023. The city of Desert Hot Springs said that they didn't want to just repair the road, but also make improvements to help mitigate future weather-related closures. This includes three large, concrete culverts to allow for both water and wildlife to easily pass under the road.

The Palm Springs Fire Dept. rescued a hiker who was suffering from symptoms of heat exhaustion Wednesday afternoon. The rescue started at around Noon at the Museum Trail. The Banning High baseball team defeated Desert Hot Springs (DHS) twice last week en route to the Desert Valley League (DVL) title. Banning defeated DHS 23-2 and 5-0.
