Motorcyclist remains in critical condition following accident; Names of those involved revealed
The identities of those involved in Sunday’s motorcycle accident have been released. Mathew Dewar, 28, of Saxon sustained serious injuries shortly before 2:30 p.m. Sunday from an accident involving a collision with a car in the town of Sanborn. The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office said Dewar was traveling westbound on Highway 2 when Linda Stone, 74, of Odanah, operating a Toyota Corolla heading eastbound attempted to turn left onto Maple Street. That put Dewar in the path of the motorcyclist. Dewar remains in the hospital in critical condition, while Stone is home recovering from injuries, according to the release. The accident remains under investigation by the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office.

She was very shy and under socialized when she first came to the shelter, but really has bloomed meeting all of the new animals and people she sees coming and going everyday. She’s treat motivated and is learning by leaps and bounds. She is eager to find her new home as she’s pretty lonely being by herself every night. She needs a home who is willing to work with her and gain confidence, a leader is what she is looking for. Motorcyclist suffers serious injuries following crash in Wisconsin
SANBORN, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities say one man suffered serious injuries Sunday afternoon following a crash involving a car and a motorcycle in northern Wisconsin. According to a release from the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel from the City of Ashland, the Bad River Fire Department, and the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office responded at 2:24 p.m. for multiple calls about a crash at the intersection of US Highway 2 and Maple Street in the Township of Sanborn.

Ashland, Wis.- The BRICK Ministries Food Shelf is on the move again, only temporarily. According to a post on Facebook, starting May 1 the pantry will be relocated to the United Presbyterian-Congregational Church. That building is on the corner of Vaughn and 3rd Street. Door four will be the new entrance. The relocation is due to the construction at the main facility. The building should be reopened at the end of June. Hours will remain as normal.
Move over for utility and construction workers
As part of National Work Zone Awareness Week, Xcel Energy reminds drivers to slow down and move over for vehicles and workers on the side of the road — including utility and construction vehicles. Many drivers slow down or move over when approaching an emergency vehicle on the side of the road. Third “Stick” Furtak scholarship tournament
The village of Butternut honored the memory of a former village supervisor, bus driver and longtime baseball and basketball coach with the third annual John “Stick” Furtak Memorial Tournament on April 20. Nate Pritz, a former Butternut baseball coach when Furtak was an assistant coach, spoke in a ceremony prior to the Butternut and Flambeau baseball game. He said the funds raised at the games through concessions and donations result in two $500 annual scholarships for a boy and girl athlete in any sport. ...

The Ashland Fieldhouse recently showcased a youth tournament where hundreds of athletes balled and two times more were there to cheer them on. Some teams had sponsors. All were subsidized in some way, of course, to make the trek from as far away as Thunder Bay. Which brings me to high school sports, real money being moved around, and players who have yet to don their caps and gowns from, say, Ashland or Drummond High Schools, profiting from their name, image, and likeness (NIL) while competing at the high school level. ...
