Utah State University Gaza protest aims to build awareness
LOGAN — A group of approximately 70 people gathered on the Utah State University lawn just outside Old Main Wednesday to protest for a ceasefire in Gaza. Organizers, like USU student Cristina Chirvasa, said they wanted to draw attention during the school’s commencement ceremonies but also want to keep the event peaceful.

Wild About Utah: Great-tailed grackles
My formal introduction to great-tailed grackles was on a birding trip to Box Elder County. We stopped at the Walmart parking lot in Brigham City where Dick Hurren took a cup of cat food and tossed it out in front of our parked car. Then we watched the grackles fly in. We joked, at the time, that grackles seemed to spontaneously show up at new stores. It’s almost as if they hitchhike on semis.

Preliminary and bail hearings scheduled for NBA YoungBoy in Utah prescription drug case
LOGAN — Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, a.k.a. rapper NBA YoungBoy, is going to remain in jail at least for several more weeks, until a judge reviews evidence in the criminal case that he orchestrated a fraudulent prescription drug operation. The 24-year-old man has been in the Cache County Jail since law enforcement served a warrant to his Huntsville home April 16.

Max Hadfield’s 100th birthday
Max Hadfield will turn 100 years old on May 2, 2024. He was born in Grouse Creek, Utah on May 2, 1924, the eighth of ten children born to William and Grace Hadfield. After High School graduation, he served in the US Air Force during World War II and later served an LDS Mission to Texas. Upon returning to Logan, he married Marie Nielsen in the Logan, Utah Temple. They have been married for 72 years.

Goals were hard to come by for the Riverhawks in their 6-3 road loss to Green Canyon last Friday, but they certainly bounced back in a big way in their next outing. Ridgeline got back on track offensively in its 17-6 victory over Logan in a Region 11 boys lacrosse game on Wednesday evening in Millville. The Riverhawks (7-6, 5-2) remained in a second-place tie with the Wolves in the region standings, in the process, while the much-improved Grizzlies (3-10, 0-7) are still looking for their first region win.
