Wauneta Gun Club hosts annual year end program
The Wauneta Gun Club recently held their year end awards supper and program. This was the 65th year The Wauneta Gun Club has been active. It was chartered by the National Rifle Association in 1959. In its beginning’s, members shot in the basement of the Odd Fellow building in Wauneta. In the 1960’s the club rented a building at Enders. In 1995 the club was able to purchase that building thru its members donations. The club currently has 30 members from the communities of Imperial, Wauneta, Grant, Elsie, Madrid, Stratton, Culbertson and McCook. Members shoot on teams or individually. League shoot runs Sept. thru March. However, Club members can use the range all year long. Goal of the club is to promote gun safety, improve marksmanship skills while enjoying the competition. A handicap system is used in scoring to allow every level of shooter a chance to win matches and to also improve each one’s individual scores. The 2023-24 season included an all-female team.
Southwest Public Power District pays taxes to local communities
This week Hamlet, Palisade, Culbertson, Hayes Center, Haigler and Trenton received “in-lieu of tax” payments from Southwest Public Power District totaling $89,760.25.
