Former bishop found guilty of molesting juvenile sentenced to life in prison
The victim in the Frederick Hamilton criminal case appeared via Zoom and told the court he wanted the defendant, found guilty by a jury, to go to prison. The judge obliged. The victim said Hamilton has damaged him, and he now has trouble trusting anyone. He told the judge not to have any sympathy for Hamilton because he may do something similar to another person.
Realtor arrested on DUI charge after hitting parked car at Brownwood
A realtor was arrested on a drunk driving charge after hitting a parked car at Brownwood. Joanna Elizabeth Oswalt, 55, of Lake Panasoffkee, was “unresponsive” and “unable to stand” when she was found at the wheel of a Toyota pickup which struck the rear end of a parked Jeep at about 11 p.m. Friday in the parking lot across from Cody’s Original Roadhouse, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. The witness who initially found Oswalt and dialed 911 told police that she “seemed to be unaware that the crash had even occurred.” The witness added that Oswalt was unable to stand and “laid on the ground in the parking lot.”
Suspect flees Walmart in The Villages with two cases of stolen beer
A suspect was arrested after fleeing with two case of stolen beer from the Walmart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages. Thomas Allen Watts, 50, of Lady Lake, entered the store at about 6 p.m. Saturday and loaded a case of Corona Extra beer and a case of Heineken Original Lager beer into a shopping cart, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He also added a 20-ounce bottle of Mountain Dew to the cart before pushing it out of the store without paying for the merchandise, which totaled $59.74. The incident was captured on video surveillance.

A K-9 unit assisted in the arrest of a driver with a felony amount of marijuana. Tyler Vincent Saunders, 23, of Summerfield, was driving a gold Chevy utility vehicle at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Lake Panasoffkee when he was pulled over for an obscured license plate, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
