Jackman man hospitalized with serious injuries following single-vehicle crash
WEST FORKS, Maine (WABI) - A Jackman man was seriously injured after a car crash yesterday in West Forks. According to the Morning Sentinel, 76-year old Roland West was driving when his vehicle crossed the center line of Route 201, went off the road before crashing into a large rock.

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Kiwanis Club of Dover-Foxcroft held its 50th annual Piscataquis River Race on the morning of Saturday, April 27 with paddlers traveling approximately 9.5 miles from Guilford to Dover-Foxcroft. The event is one of the biggest fundraisers for the Kiwanis with proceeds benefiting the organization’s numerous charitable endeavors.
Applicants sought for 2024 Minnie Welts Bridge Memorial Scholarship
PARKMAN — The Parkman Grange is announcing plans to award 2024 Minnie Welts Bridge Memorial Scholarships to one or more deserving SAD 4 graduates continuing their education beyond high school. The Grange awarded $500 scholarships in 2023 to Matthew Chadbourne, Sangerville, a social work major at the University of Southern Maine; Mercy Harper, Sangerville, a criminal justice major at Husson University; MacKenzie Kain, Parkman, an early childhood education major at Kennebec Valley Community College; and, Merrilee Levensailor, Guilford, an accounting major at University of Maine-Augusta.
Dover-Foxcroft select board signs June 11 warrant
DOVER-FOXCROFT – On Tuesday, June 11 Dover-Foxcroft residents will head to the polls to vote on the municipal budget, a question pertaining to the future of the Mayo Mill Dam, several items on land use ordinance amendments, and the RSU 68 budget (which will also be voted on that day by the fellow district communities of Charleston, Monsoon, and Sebec). The June warrant was formally approved by the Dover-Foxcroft Select Board during a meeting on Monday, April 29.
Friends of Community Fitness receives grant from Masonic lodges to support the Healthy4Life program
GUILFORD — Friends of Community Fitness has been granted $2,000 from Mount Kineo Masonic Lodge and Abner Wade Lodge to support the Healthy4Life fitness program. This program is specifically geared toward community members that have health concerns that may hinder them from traditional exercise classes. This small group class celebrates successes together and encourages each other in our daily challenges.
Monson Arts high school program gallery show opening reception
MONSON — Monson Arts will be hosting a free open reception for the high school program’s student gallery show “Carved Moments” from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, May 3. This show is a culmination of the 15-session, academic school year program at Monson Arts in partnership with seven local high schools: Greenville Consolidated, Piscataquis Community, Foxcroft Academy, Penquis Valley, Central, Dexter, and Nokomis. Each school sends a select group of 3-5 students working in two sections: visual artists and writers. Each section is led by creative professionals; the painter Alan Bray for the visual artists and the poet Dawn Potter for the writers.
Cast your vote on Sangerville Town Hall
In the summer and fall of 2022, the Sangerville Town Hall faced a significant setback when the Maine Municipal Association canceled its property coverage due to necessary repairs. Consequently, the select board closed the town hall and relocated the town office to a rental costing $1,300 a month. This abrupt change caught residents off guard, especially during the fall elections when voters found the town hall closed and had to resort to casting their votes at Grace Bible Church. Many expressed concerns about the inconvenience, and for their town hall — long on the National Historic Register — to be unheated for the winter.
Greenville Planning Board approves fence ordinance
GREENVILLE — Since receiving requests from residents to help avoid potential conflicts between neighbors concerning fence issues, the Greenville Planning Board has been working on a fence ordinance for the community. Board members have looked at other ordinances from around the state and these suggestions have been incorporated into drafts of the ordinance, which would be the first of its kind for Greenville.
