Realtor arrested on DUI charge after hitting parked car at Brownwood
A realtor was arrested on a drunk driving charge after hitting a parked car at Brownwood. Joanna Elizabeth Oswalt, 55, of Lake Panasoffkee, was “unresponsive” and “unable to stand” when she was found at the wheel of a Toyota pickup which struck the rear end of a parked Jeep at about 11 p.m. Friday in the parking lot across from Cody’s Original Roadhouse, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. The witness who initially found Oswalt and dialed 911 told police that she “seemed to be unaware that the crash had even occurred.” The witness added that Oswalt was unable to stand and “laid on the ground in the parking lot.”
Former bishop found guilty of molesting juvenile sentenced to life in prison
The victim in the Frederick Hamilton criminal case appeared via Zoom and told the court he wanted the defendant, found guilty by a jury, to go to prison. The judge obliged. The victim said Hamilton has damaged him, and he now has trouble trusting anyone. He told the judge not to have any sympathy for Hamilton because he may do something similar to another person.

New retailer announces opening date at Lady Lake Crossing
A new retailer coming to Lady Lake Crossing has announced an opening date. Five Below will be opening on May 24 at 486 North U.S. Hwy. 27/441, next to the Dollar Tree, which is next to Kohl’s. Five Below is taking over the former location of Tuesday Morning, which closed last year.
Suspect flees Walmart in The Villages with two cases of stolen beer
A suspect was arrested after fleeing with two case of stolen beer from the Walmart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages. Thomas Allen Watts, 50, of Lady Lake, entered the store at about 6 p.m. Saturday and loaded a case of Corona Extra beer and a case of Heineken Original Lager beer into a shopping cart, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He also added a 20-ounce bottle of Mountain Dew to the cart before pushing it out of the store without paying for the merchandise, which totaled $59.74. The incident was captured on video surveillance.
Maryland DUI suspect calls deputy ‘cracker’ during arrest in The Villages
A Maryland drunk driving suspect lashed out a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy and called him a “cracker” when she was arrested in The Villages. Keisha Denice Morris, 46, of Gwynn Oak, Md., was driving a blue Nissan Altima at about 5:15 p.m. Saturday heading south on Morse Boulevard at County Road 466 when she ran a red light and nearly hit a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy’s squad car which was northbound on Morse Boulevard and turning left onto County Road 466 with the green arrow, according to an arrest report from the sheriff’s office. The deputy had to “drastically apply her brakes to prevent colliding” with Morris’ vehicle. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and immediately noticed that Morris “had an obvious odor of an alcoholic beverage.” The deputy spotted an orange Smirnoff Peach Lemonade drink in the center console and called in a second deputy to conduct a DUI investigation.

Shooting in Belleview determined murder suicide
BELLEVIEW, Fla. (WCJB) - A shooting that took place in Belleview on Sunday, April 21st, has been determined a murder/suicide by Marion County Sheriff’s Office detectives. Responding to a death investigation, arriving officers found two victims on the floor with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The victims were later identified as Erica Brooks, 37, and James Marean, 64.

Convicted felon headed back to prison after ruckus at square
A convicted felon is heading back to prison after a ruckus last year at Spanish Springs Town Square. Eric Allen Feliciano, 30, has been sentenced to 32 months with the Florida Department of Corrections as the result of a hearing earlier this month in Lake County Court. He will receive credit for 418 days already served in the Lake County Jail. He previously served time in prison for burglary and aggravated battery.

Tyler Vincent Saunders, 23, of Summerfield, was driving a gold Chevy utility vehicle at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Lake Panasoffkee when he was pulled over for an obscured license plate, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
