Franklin County Republican Central Committee to hold Meet the Candidate night
PRESTON — The Franklin County Republican Central Committee is happy to announce a Meet the Candidate night. It will be held May 2 and will feature the Republican candidates for Franklin County races for sheriff and county commissioners in districts 1 and 3. The event will be held 7 p.m., with doors opening 6 p.m., at Preston High School auditorium, 151 E. 2nd S. in Preston.
Weston’s unpalatable buildings
The Weston city council meeting for the month of April was a stream of building permits. There were three sheds, two additions, two houses and one inquiry. One of the houses was Brent Christensen and B’Linda Dover’s new modular home. You may recall, back in January, the camping trailer that had large tanks for a septic system and was plugged into a nearby power pole. That is their property.
Cache Valley Humanitarian Center moves to new location
LOGAN - For a charity organization to change locations, it can affect their ability do their work and rally volunteers. That is the case for Cache Valley Humanitarian Center (CVHC). The organization is no longer at the old seminary building adjacent to Mount Logan Middle School. The Logan School District needed the space, so Dwight and Kay Whittaker, directors of the CVHC, had to find a new location to operate.
Idaho Rural Water Association scholarship
Idaho Rural Water Association is proud to announce that Hayden Kimpton is the recipient of a $2,000 Tony Elfering Memorial Scholarship. Kimpton lives in Preston and is a 2022 Preston High School graduate. He has worked the past year for the City of Franklin in the public works department. He currently attends Western Governors University and is working towards earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Preston receives donation for pickleball courts
The Preston City Council meeting held on April 8 began with a community comment by Chris Larsen updating the public and the council on the progress made in cracking down on illegal drugs of all kinds in Preston since last year. He noted the hard work of the officers, but also that it would not be possible without the public support.

Musicians take center stage at Bennett Cup
Preston held the 84th annual Bennett Cup music competition on Wednesday, April 17 and Thursday, April 18 at the Preston High School Auditorium. The competition began in 1940 when Floyd and Barbara Bennett began sponsoring it to benefit aspiring young musicians in the community. Since 1994 when the Bennetts retired, the event has been sponsored by the Bennett Cup Committee.
