Faithful gather to mark National Day of Prayer in Parkersburg, Vienna
PARKERSBURG — Communities around the Mid-Ohio Valley Thursday held National Day of Prayer rallies to pray for government leaders and American society. Rallies are organized the first Thursdays in May and were held in Vienna and Parkersburg, among other locations, where the weather was perfect, said Tim Baer, an organizer of the Parkersburg rally at Bicentennial Park.
National Day of Prayer draws a crowd in downtown Marietta
MARIETTA — People gathered around the country to participate in the 73rd annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday, including in Marietta. According to the NDP website, it is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people to pray for the nation and was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman and the day exists to mobilize unified prayer for America.
Six and Day bond modification motions withdrawn
MARIETTA — Noah Boyd Six and Shila Kathyrn Day were back in court on Tuesday afternoon to address bond modification. Six and Day had a hearing April 15, where Six’s and Day’s attorneys asked that their bonds to be modified to personal recognizance bonds where they could be released to family because they had no criminal histories, did not flee during the investigation leading up to their arrests and were not a danger to society or children and there was no danger of them fleeing.
Getting hotter for the end of the week
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - May is already off to a very warm start across the Mid-Ohio Valley. The official start of summer is not until June 20th, but it feels like we should be now in the start of June. Temperatures today will quickly heat up later this morning and into the afternoon. The morning commute will start off in the mid-50s and then we make our climb to the 80-degree mark, which should be reached by around noon. Heading further through the day, highs are going to climb into the upper 80s. We will be very close to the 90-degree mark, but we are not expected to hit that. Speaking of 90, that is our daily high temperature record for today. That was set back in 1959. Typically, we should be around 72 degrees this time of year. Not only will we be well above that today, but that will continue into Friday.

Vacant building engulfed in flames on Jeanette St. in Parkersburg
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - A vacant building was on fire on the 500 block of Jeanette St. in Parkersburg on Tuesday night. Authorities received a call at about 8:20 p.m. about the vacant City Iron & Metal building being engulfed in flames. There were no injuries reported, according to authorities.
