Local stakeholders to host transportation safety summit at Logan Library
LOGAN – Cache Valley residents are being invited to attend a transportation safety summit at the Logan Library on Thursday, May 16. That gathering is being called by safety stakeholders, including representatives of the Cache Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Utah Department of Transportation, emergency responders, Crash Data and Safety experts as well as local interest groups.
Utah State University Gaza protest aims to build awareness
LOGAN — A group of approximately 70 people gathered on the Utah State University lawn just outside Old Main Wednesday to protest for a ceasefire in Gaza. Organizers, like USU student Cristina Chirvasa, said they wanted to draw attention during the school’s commencement ceremonies but also want to keep the event peaceful.

Max Hadfield’s 100th birthday
Max Hadfield will turn 100 years old on May 2, 2024. He was born in Grouse Creek, Utah on May 2, 1924, the eighth of ten children born to William and Grace Hadfield. After High School graduation, he served in the US Air Force during World War II and later served an LDS Mission to Texas. Upon returning to Logan, he married Marie Nielsen in the Logan, Utah Temple. They have been married for 72 years.
Softball takes region loss on road; home games rained out
The Bear River softball squad was jazzed for a full slate of home games scheduled for Friday and Saturday, but Mother Nature had other plans. The Bears were slated to host Logan on Friday, then play a tripleheader on Saturday in Garland. All of those games were either canceled or postponed due to rain.

LOGAN — Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, a.k.a. rapper NBA YoungBoy, is going to remain in jail at least for several more weeks, until a judge reviews evidence in the criminal case that he orchestrated a fraudulent prescription drug operation. The 24-year-old man has been in the Cache County Jail since law enforcement served a warrant to his Huntsville home April 16.

Roland and Jeanie Squire began their adventure together when they met in a Business Law class at Utah State University in the Spring of 1973. They sat next to each other and exchanged papers as their quizzes were corrected in class. They became friends and as the quarter came to an end, Roland asked Jeanie to go out to dinner at Gia’s and to see the movie Judge Roy Bean for their first date.

Congratulations to Jack Olson, who lives in Weston, on his LDS mission call to Auckland, New Zealand. Jack has a brother currently serving a mission, also in New Zealand, who will be returning next fall from his mission, and a sister who has her call to serve in Canada. Three missionaries from one family at the same time — now that has to be a record!!! It will be fun to see how many graduating seniors from West Side High School have mission calls when they graduate in May.

A giant, 43-foot, gold-leafed railroad spike monument made its way to Utah State University for the public to admire on Tuesday.
