Very warm today, severe weather on Wednesday
Starting the morning with temps in the 40s and 50s across the High Plains. Temps will still rise into the upper 80s to mid-90s for this afternoon with sunny skies and calm winds. Our winds this morning are increasing to the east with mid-morning winds sustained between 20-25 mph for this area. Occasionally breezy until the early hours of the afternoon before light winds return once again. We could see isolated thunderstorms develop to the SE before moving into central Oklahoma this afternoon. The SPC currently has a marginal tag of severe weather for Childress and Cottle County. On Wednesday, our threat will increase one category across the entire eastern Panhandles with a slight tag. Storms are forecasted to develop in the east from Wednesday afternoon into the nighttime. Then storms will track into western Oklahoma. The rest of our seven-day forecast will still call for isolated to scattered storms into the weekend. We are in the Spring season so be sure to stay weather aware and tuned to the latest!
Frost possible, rain looking likely for some Saturday
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Unseasonably cool temperatures will linger across the southern Plains for the remainder of our week and weekend. Morning lows will fall into the 30s and low 40s for the next several mornings. A light frost or freeze will be possible for areas along and northwest of highway 54 in the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles tonight where temperatures are expected to fall to 34-37 degrees in pockets where cloud cover is not present tonight. While frost is not guaranteed, it cannot be ruled out.
