The Hillsville Movie Night crew is kicking off the 2024 season with something from a galaxy far far away May 4 as the Hillsville VFW Hillsville movie nights will present the 1977 classic Star Wars — A New Hope. This is the fourth season of the movie nights and with the support of our local sponsors the movie nights are admission free! As the pre-show events increase, tailgating before the show is becoming very popular! That night we will be Spotlighting the Special Olympics athletes, enjoying tasty treats from Purple Moon Café and Up-and-Down Café, competing in light saber battles, costume contest and trivia all the makings of a good time! McArthur Street to be closed until May 13
Beginning Monday April 29, McArthur Street will be closed from Swanson Street to Parkwood Drive until May 13. Parkwood will be closed to ALL through traffic. First responders will have to use alternate routes when responding to the stations and to residences.
Club Stays Amateur Radio-active
The Briarpatch Amateur Radio Club (BARC) of Galax had an active Winter. Beyond weekly on-air ‘net’ meetings communicated on local 2-meter repeater N4VL/R, the club held in person monthly meetings. BARC also sponsored 30 region ham radio operators and family members for the annual fellowship meal and Christmas party at Fiddler’s restaurant in Hillsville. The gathering culminated with one fortunate and happy radio operator winning a very nice 50W TYT dual band transceiver donated by club president Frank Howard.
