Clear Lake man caught with drugs and a gun is sent to federal prison
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Illegal gun possession is sending a North Iowa man to federal prison. Riley Joe Morris Brekke, 24 of Clear Lake, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa to one count of possession of a firearm by a felon and an unlawful drug user.
Campfire ashes blamed for shed fire in Mason City
MASON CITY, Iowa – Hot ashes are being blamed for an early Tuesday morning shed fire in Mason City. Firefighters were sent to the 1800 block of S. Virginia Avenue around 4:06 am after a 911 call from a nearby resident. The Mason City Fire Department (MCFD) says crews arrived at the scene to find a shed on fire. The flames were quickly extinguished.
Strong thunderstorms forecast for mid-week
After an amazing weekend and a great start to the next work week, a more summerlike pattern is poised to take shape across our area. A couple of low pressure systems will be passing through or near to the area during the middle of the week and with warm, moist air settling in it is possible to see some isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Severe threat increasing through the midweek
Our next round of stormy weather will be moving in starting Tuesday with additional risks expected through the midweek. Following a pleasant and dry Monday, clouds will begin to build back in from the northwest through the overnight hours into Tuesday. Scattered showers will then follow, moving across our area starting as early as 7 a.m., moving from west to east. There will be a pause in the rain as we enter the afternoon before pop-up showers and storms return during the afternoon hours.

Charles City man arrested for having several pounds of methamphetamine
MASON CITY, Iowa – The discovery of several pounds of methamphetamine leads to the arrest of a Floyd County man. Law enforcement says it pulled over a vehicle around 6:46 pm Thursday near mile marker 187 on northbound Interstate 35. Court documents state a K9 drug dog indicated the presence of illegal narcotics in the vehicle.
Tracking another beautiful day for Monday
Sunday has been beautiful with sunny skies and mild temperatures in the low to mid-70s. It has been breezy, however, with winds gusting as high as 40 mph, with a few isolated reports of wind gusts up to 50 mph. Winds will subside through the evening and after sunset with another crystal clear night ahead. We can expect another beautiful and mild day on Monday before a pattern typical of summer sets in. We'll be looking at highs in the low 80s by the middle of the week with chances for some isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We are tracking the potential for some stronger storms on Wednesday and Thursday so we'll be keeping an eye on that. The warmth will continue through the end of the week and into next weekend.
