44-year-old man arrested for multiple thefts in Grand Traverse Co.
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY — On May 3 around 6:30 a.m., Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a breaking and entering that occurred in the early morning hours at a business near Garfied Road and South Airport Avenue in Garfield Township. Deputies gathered information from the scene and then executed a search warrant a residence in Garfield Township. Stolen items were located at the residence, as well as stolen items from a breaking and entering that occurred at another business in Garfield Township near Park Drive on Feb. 9, and from a larceny that occurred at a business in the Logans Landing area on Feb. 10. At the residence where the search warrant was conducted, a 44-year-old man was arrested. He was charnged with failure to appear on a previous warrant, larceny over $1,000 and two counts of breaking and entering a building with intent, deputies said.

Man arrested for firing gun into air in Mecosta Co., deputies say
MECOSTA COUNY — The Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police said Friday that a 55-year-old man was arrested on charges of reckless discharge of a firearm. On May 3 at 12:44 a.m., deputies and troopers were patrolling the apartments in Big Rapids Township on 14 Mile Road when they said they heard three gunshots in one of the complexes. Deputies were able to locate the person responsible for firing the shots, a 55-year-old male from Auburn, officials said. The man admitted to shooting the gun in the air due to being frustrated with a verbal disagreement that had taken place, deputies said. The man was cooperative with the deputies and troopers and turned the handgun over to law enforcement, they said.

Ferris State University professor who died unexpectedly to be honored with emeriti status
BIG RAPIDS, MI – Ferris State University is honoring the life and legacy of a longtime professor who died unexpectedly last weekend. Paul Klatt, who taught at Ferris State for nearly 20 years, died at age 58 on Saturday, April 27, according to his obituary. University officials did not know the cause of his death, but said authorities believed it to be from natural causes.
