Strong to severe storms bring hail and damaging winds to Central Illinois Thursday
Peoria, Ill. (WMBD) — Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms developed across Central Illinois on Thursday bringing damaging winds, hail and heavy rain to the region. Fulton and McDonough Counties were the hardest hit as a few rounds of severe thunderstorms brought large hail and damaging winds to the area. One storm dropped golf ball size hail to Table Grove and half dollar size hail to Vermont in Fulton County.

Not everyone saw severe weather Thursday afternoon but areas that did see it had big hail and ominous “Shelf clouds” which are long, horizontal clouds ahead of a line of thunderstorms. Western Fulton County was hard hit with nearly 2-inch hail. Strong winds bent power poles along Route 136 near Table Grove. By the time the storms moved east of the Illinois River, the severe weather had decreased. This system is part of an active weather pattern which could bring a couple of strong storms Saturday afternoon with better chances for severe early next week.
Mason County son sentenced to 55 years for killing his father
GOOFY RIDGE, Ill. (WMBD) — A Mason County man was sentenced 55 years in prison Thursday for killing his father in March 2023. Paul A. Harris, 43, whose last known address was listed in court records as being in Topeka, was found guilty of first-degree murder in connection with the March 2023 death of 69-year-old Paul D. Harris.
Vehicle in Illinois River remains under investigation
EAST PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The Fon du Lac Park District Police Interim Chief Dale Orr said the vehicle found in the Illinois River on Wednesday remains under investigation. According to Orr, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is leading the investigation and is working to identify the vehicle’s owner.
