For a moment, everyone stopped. We looked up. We put our cellphones down if just for that moment and looked up. We did what for thousands of years before our devices, made us feel like we were part of something bigger than ourselves. We joined with millions of people and for that moment, we forgot our differences. We hugged strangers. Democrats and Republicans, Moslems and Jews, blacks and whites, straights and gays, we smiled at one another and felt connected in a way too seldom...
Letter: Acting a fool
Does the Harbor Commissioner, Mr. Fraser, feel committing animal cruelty, vandalism, littering the harbor with possible contaminants, and generally acting a fool, is a good example of how folks should behave in our pleasant port? I don’t own a boat or fish and understand the raucous seals can be a short lived problem, but like the article says there are more humane and less polluting ways to deal with them. Sadly I’ve done similar stupid things when I was a teenager and very much regret them now. So unless Mr. Fraser is in his teens, he should be ashamed of himself and possibly consider another line of work. Rick McNAmer Smith River

Anglers who purchased a paper Rogue-South Coast Wild Steelhead Harvest tag are urged to report their tag now, even if they didn't harvest a steelhead. The Rogue-South Coast winter steelhead fishing season ends today, April 30. Anglers using paper tags are encouraged to report their harvest tag now rather than before the next season begins Dec. 1. California man's death at Boardman Corridor on Oregon Coast is fourth death in 4 years
A California man died Sunday after falling 300 feet from a cliff on the south Oregon Coast, according to the Curry County Sheriff’s Office. It marks the fourth death in four years at the the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor, and the third death in four years in the Natural Bridges area located north of Brookings.

History was made last Tuesday at the Board of Supervisors meeting. After weeks of study, the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors has adopted its first-ever Organizational Strategic Plan effective fiscal year 2024 /25, as recommended by the Strategic Planning Team (SPT). The adopting of this document precedes the State budget, before an estimated $35 billion deficit has been addressed. The 69 page document addresses operations and ongoing projects for the 15 different departments and establishes a road map of priorities overseen by the Board. ...
