A home on Old Rockmart Road near Preacher Smith Road in Silver Creek was destroyed by an early morning fire Wednesday.

According to Rome Floyd Fire Department Division Chief Jamie Stone, firefighters received a report of a fire at 7:33 a.m. Wednesday morning and the first units arrived on the scene approximately eight minutes later.

When first responders arrived, they reported that a single-wide trailer home was fully involved in fire and that the two occupants of the home had made it outside.

Two fire engines, a tanker and a rescue truck were deployed to the fire as well as two fire chiefs. The fire was brought under control approximately 20 minutes after the fire department arrived.

There were two adults inside the home when the fire broke out. Both were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. One of the adults was also transported to a local hospital for burns.

“January and February are busy months for fires,” Stone said. “People are using heaters, which can sometimes cause fires, so please be sure and check your heaters and wiring and take precautions.”

The Red Cross was contacted to help with emergency housing, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
