SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Rising rents and a lack of funding are threatening Sacramento’s Housing Choice Voucher Program, formerly known as Section 8. As ABC10 reported earlier this month, Sacramento’s Housing Choice Voucher program is in need of more money, and the waiting list for tenant-based vouchers has been closed, among other changes.

SACRAMENTO -- A federal judge ruled for Sacramento County on constitutional claims stemming from its practice of clearing homeless encampments during the hottest part of the summer. While the U.S. Supreme Court has recognized a state-created danger claim under the Due Process Clause, there is no comparable foundation for such a claim in California state law. The homeless advocacy group also may not allege a California Health and Safety Code violation against the city.

Self-governed Sacramento homeless camp secures land use extension, but city has yet to decide on lease
A self-governed Sacramento homeless encampment plans to remain on a city-owned lot after securing a land use extension this week. Residents of and advocates for Camp Resolution announced the plan Thursday after securing a land use extension from the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board. The variance was set to expire on June 1, but a letter from the waterboard extends it to Dec. 1 in order to give the city of Sacramento, the tenant and board time to reach a new agreement.
