Nyla Johnson Added to Belmont Women’s Basketball Coaching Staff
May 15, 2024 – Belmont University women’s basketball leader Bart Brooks has appointed Nyla Johnson as the program’s newest assistant coach, the athletics department announced Monday morning. Johnson, a native of Huntsville, Alabama, joins the Bruins’ experienced coaching staff after serving as head coach at NCAA Division III Birmingham-Southern College last season.
BGA's Phelps, Mabury, Brentwood's Kinder, LA's Callis earn gold in state decathlon, pentathlon
The state decathlon and pentathlon championship meets took place this week, and several competitions were won by local athletes. Battle Ground Academy swept the Division II-A titles, which took place at Franklin Road Academy, with junior Miller Mabury winning in the decathlon competition and senior Laurel Phelps taking the pentathlon crown. Mabury totaled 6499 points and Phelps set a new school record with 3031 points.

County Shooting Team Wins State Title
The Greene County 4-H Shotgun Team claimed its first state championship on May 4 at the Nashville Gun Club in Nashville. The Greene County Senior High team of Mason Philbeck (Greeneville High), Robby Hinman (Greeneville High), Baylor Wagner (West Greene Middle), Randy Strickland (Chuckey-Doak High) and Brayden Broyles (home school) won the state title.
