Fears of the mysterious Rainey Street Ripper have resurfaced after two more bodies were pulled out of a lake in Austin, Texas .

Emergency services uncovered the first corpse in Lady Bird Lake on April 9. Just a few days later, a fisherman spotted another person floating in the waters.

The cause of death of both victims has not yet been identified, but their recovery marks 12 bodies pulled from the body of water since 2022, when fears of the killer first circulated after half a dozen men were found in the river after having drowned. Although there is no direct proof, many have speculated that a serial killer is responsible given the similarities in the deaths.

Dubbed the Rainey Street Killer because of where their alleged victims were found — near Rainey Street, a bustling hub for nightlife featuring several restaurants located in the south of the major Texas city — no suspect has ever been identified.

In fact, the Austin Police Department previously stated detectives wouldn't be investigating the possibility of a serial killer because of the lack of a common denominator between the deaths.

The police and even some local bartenders in the area have cited the possibility that alcohol led to the deaths, with the victims possibly drinking too much before wandering out toward the path near the river, which isn't lit, and falling in.

The 12 people who have been pulled out of the river since mid-2022, are almost all men, and all are in their 20s to 40s. Those who have been pulled out of the river since July 2022 are...

  • Ricky Parks — July 2022
  • Christopher Gutierrez — December 2022

  • Josue Moreno — December 2022

  • Kyle Thornton — December 2022

  • Jason John — February 2023

  • Clifton Axtell — March 2023

  • John Christopher Hays-Clark — April 2023

  • Jonathan Honey — April 2023

  • Mogga Dogale — June 2023

  • Unidentified female — February 2024

  • Unidentified person — April 2024

  • Unidentified male — April 2024

Only one of the deaths is being investigated as a homicide, as Josue Moreno was found shot in his vehicle under the water. The others were ruled as accidental drownings or foul play was ruled out without further explanation.

Nothing is yet known about the two most recent victims, just that one is a man, just like the other victims were. The investigation into the bodies continues, as concerned citizens continue to fear the possibility of a serial killer.
