A 32-year-old Victorville man was killed in a two-vehicle crash just outside of Apple Valley on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Chad Cahill died following the crash, which was reported about 3:10 p.m. along Rock Springs Road, east of Glendale Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol officials and San Bernardino County coroner's records.

Cahill was driving a 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck west on Rock Springs Road just prior to the wreck, the CHP said in a written statement.

"The driver of the Toyota Tacoma veered to the left and into the eastbound lane, across the solid double yellow lines," the statement said. The truck continued into the path of an oncoming 2023 Jeep Renegade.

"The driver of the Jeep Renegade took evasive action, however, he was unable to avoid the front of the Toyota Tacoma from crashing into the front of the Jeep Renegade," according to the statement.

Paramedics pronounced Cahill dead at the scene.

Officials said the driver of the Jeep, described as a 16-year-old Hesperia boy, as well as a front passenger, were uninjured. A rear passenger in the Jeep was taken to a hospital with chest pain.

An online memorial and fundraiser has been established by the family on GoFundMe.com .

"He brought light into the smiles and laughter to all who knew him with his compassionate heart," according to a statement on the memorial page. "He was loving, caring and very passionate. He always tried to speak positivity into peoples life and impact their moods and mindsets. He was extremely dedicated to his family."

The investigation into the collision remained ongoing.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information, was asked to contact the CHP's Victorville Office at (760) 241-1186.
