A Pennsylvania man was charged by federal agents earlier this week for allegedly making a series of death threats directed toward President Joe Biden and local officials in videos posted online.

Jordan Gee, 37, stands accused of three counts of threats against the president and one count of interstate threats, according to a federal indictment filed under seal on Tuesday. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced the indictment and released a largely threadbare version of the indictment on Thursday.

The defendant was already behind bars for wholly unrelated reasons at the time the federal charging instrument was handed up by the grand jury, prompting federal prosecutors to file for, and receive, a version of a writ of habeas corpus in order to keep him incarcerated and to also make sure he shows up to court appearances.

The alleged threats against the 46th president came just before a campaign swing by Scranton in which he addressed several groups of supporters including a carpenters union local, railroad employees, and a cultural center. At least one such event was also thronged by a group of protesters outside holding Palestinian flags and expressing anger over the president’s support for Israel as it attacks the Gaza Strip.

Biden was born and partially raised in Scranton, though his family eventually moved to Delaware. During the visit, the president appeared alongside Scranton Mayor Paige G. Cognetti.

Prosecutors allege Gee threatened Biden and a couple other area mayors — but perhaps surprisingly not Scranton’s own leader.

“Joe Biden: I’m going to kill you and your whole cabinet,” one of the alleged threats, dated April 15, reads. “The mayor of Kingston and Wilkes-Barre: I’m going to kill you. I’m going to kill you.”

Three additional videos contain variations on a theme.

In one such video, Gee allegedly offers a pared down version of the threat against the president and his cabinet, according to the indictment. He allegedly says: “Joe Biden: I’m going to kill you and your whole cabinet.”

One alleged threat is particularly violent and detailed.

“Joe Biden: I’m going to kill you,” Gee allegedly said in a video. “Joe Biden: I’m going to decapitate you on front of everybody on live TV … If you come to my city in Scranton, Pennsylvania, I’m cutting your f—— head off in front of everybody; I promise.”

Yet another threat reiterates a decidedly odd version of hometown pride wielded against a man likely considered a local hero by some.

“I’m going to kill you, Joe Biden,” Gee allegedly said in another video. “Stay out of my city.”

      Or maybe not.

According to the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader , Gee actually hails from Nanticoke — a small town some 27 miles southwest of Scranton.

The paper reports that he was recently jailed on allegations that he stole a bag of coffee from a coffee shop and then resisted arrest after being caught — later on the same day the video threats were posted.

Gee faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison if convicted as charged, along with supervised release and an indeterminate fine.

The defendant is currently represented by the federal public defender’s office. Law&Crime reached out to Gee’s court-appointed attorney for comment but no response was immediately forthcoming.
