Two parrots dead in Mishawaka house fire
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The Mishawaka Fire and Police Departments were called to the 500 block of South Ironwood Drive around 11:26 a.m. Tuesday morning for a structure fire. "MPD arrived first on scene and found heavy smoke coming from [the house]," authorities said. "MFD was assisted by the South Bend Fire Department to get the fire knocked down. The fire was extinguished in a short amount of time. Sadly, two parrots did not survive the fire."

Staff member arrested for bringing gun to Elkhart elementary school
ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) - An Elkhart Community Schools employee has been placed under arrest after they allegedly brought a gun onto school grounds this morning. Elkhart police were notified by the district that one of its school resource officers placed a staff member at Mary Beck Elementary School under arrest around 9:30 a.m. for bringing a handgun into the school.
Cooler with more showers today, drier tomorrow
Aside from a few lingering isolated showers this morning, we're starting the day mainly dry and warm, near 60. Temperatures stay a bit cooler through the day with highs only topping out around 70, near-average for this time of year. Although skies are dry for the first half of the day, scattered showers return this afternoon with rain continuing into tonight. Showers wrap up by tomorrow morning, Wednesday starts cloudy but mostly sunny skies return tomorrow afternoon with mild temperatures in the lower 70s. The break in rain is brief with showers returning Thursday afternoon and evening. Chances for rain and possibly a few thunderstorms extend through the end of the week, but we're dry and warm by the weekend.
The Navarre Cabin will relocate to The History Museum
The oldest structure in St. Joseph County will now have a new home. The historic Navarre Cabin is relocating to The History Museum after 120 years at Leeper Park. The Navarre Cabin, built in the early 1820s by Pierre Navarre, the county's first pioneer settler, holds historical importance as his presence paved the way for the founding of South Bend.
