Deadly helicopter crash near Texas-Mexico border now under criminal investigation
STARR COUNTY, Texas — Authorities are investigating if there was any criminal wrongdoing in a deadly helicopter crash near the Texas-Mexico border. According to ABC News, Major Carlos Delgado with the Starr County Sheriff's Office said his agency is still conducting its own criminal investigation into the crash after turning the case over to the Department of Defense.
Coyotes, Lobos, Diamondbacks advance to Area
Last week, Big 7 softball teams from La Joya ISD, Mission CISD, and Sharyland ISD competed in the bi-district round of the UIL state playoffs to crown winners and to advance to the Area round. Big 7 softball has been firing on all cylinders this year as these teams have now carved their way into their respective schools’ history books. Five softball teams from the Big 7 competed in the bi-district round, but only three came out on top. The Veterans Memorial Patriots and the Mission Eagles were eliminated in the first round while the La Joya Coyotes, Palmview Lobos, and Pioneer Diamondbacks advanced into the Area round with their bi-district championships. The next round of playoffs games is being played this week with some games being played last night and others being played tonight and tomorrow. These best-of-three series will determine who will continue their journey in the playoffs and whose stories will be coming to an end.

According to statistics submitted to MaxPreps, Arianna Alaniz of Palmview (La Joya, Texas) is high school softball's national leader in strikeouts. Alaniz has 369 strikeouts across 160.1 innings of work. The senior owns a microscopic 0.83 ERA and has hit double-digit strikeouts in 10 straight games with a season-high 24 in a February game.
