OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - After a tornado event, the National Weather Service sends out teams to survey the damage and classify tornadoes using the Enhanced Fujita Scale. The scale ranges from EF-0 to EF-5, an EF-5 being the most destructive level of tornado. The categories are based off of estimated wind speed determined by the level of damage. The scale does not take the tornado’s size, duration, or radar wind speeds into account.

Council Bluffs man sentenced for street racing shooting death
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A Council Bluffs man convicted in the shooting death of a 21-year-old at an Omaha street racing event-turned-fight last summer has learned his fate. Austin Petersen, 23, will serve 16 to 17 years in prison for manslaughter. He will receive 321 days’ credit for time served. Petersen pleaded “no contest” in March to the manslaughter charge; in exchange, one count of using a firearm to commit a felony was dropped.
