Suspect accused of shooting a man in head arrested Friday afternoon

ZACHARY, La. (BRPROUD) — The suspect accused of shooting a man in the head is in jail on Friday afternoon after he was found in a wooded area off of Plank Road near the East Feliciana parish line, according to Zachary police.

Police said Jack Ealy Jr., 51, of Wilson faces an attempted second-degree murder charge. He will be booked as a fugitive in East Feliciana Parish before he is taken to be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, police said.

Ealy was taken to a hospital for an examination.

The police department said officers responded to a report of shots fired at 2:40 p.m. on June 1 where Kenneth O’Connor Jr., 37, was found shot in the head in a car on New Weis Road.

O’Connor is in critical condition but expected to survive his injuries, Zachary PD said on Friday morning.

No further details about what led to the shooting or a motive were released by Zachary police.

An investigation is ongoing.
