Treatment ongoing for Yuma mother accused of stabbing son

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma mother accused of trying to murder her teenage son will remain in treatment to continue her mental competency evaluation.

37-year-old Diana Diaz was arrested for allegedly stabbing her 15-year-old son after an argument in April 2022.

He was rushed to the hospital and survived the stabbing.

Diaz is charged with premeditated attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Her attorney, Jose Padilla, requested that Diaz remains under evaluation for an additional 30 days, which was granted by Judge David Haws.

Diaz will be back in court next month.
