CUTLER, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A 49-year-old man from Cutler was hit and killed and a driver was arrested in Cutler on Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP says around 10:15 p.m. officers responded to First Drive west of Cutler Drive in the city of Cutler for a crash.

Investigators say a woman was driving a black Dodge Caravan westbound on First Drive.  For reasons still under investigation by CHP,  investigators say a man was walking northwest across the road when the driver of the Dodge struck the pedestrian.

The 49-year-old man died at the scene. The driver was not hurt. The cause of the crash is under investigation. At this time, alcohol and or drugs are considered to be a factor in this crash, CHP says.

And the homeless situation makes it worse because theres a lot more pedestrians on the street after dark. They share some responsibility because they should realize its harder to see them when its dark. Perhaps we need more street lights but I think its safer to stay on the sidewalk if you don't have reflective clothing. Sorry to that this happened and prayers go out to the everyone involved.
