TULARE COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A 22-year-old is dead following a crash on a highway outside of Lindsay on Monday, the Tulare County Fire Department announced.

CHP reported around 2:30 p.m. they responded to the scene of a collision on Rd. 188 north of Ave. 232 near Lindsay.

Investigators report a 22-year-old man from Tulare was traveling northbound on Rd. 188 north of Ave. 232 when for unknown reasons he veered to the left in the opposite lane, directly in the path of an oncoming flatbed truck, and collided head-on.

Photos provided by firefighters reveal the front end of a silver truck completely crushed under the front end of a rental flatbed truck on the side of a road next to a cornfield.

As a result of the collision, CHP says the 22-year-old died on scene and the other victim was unharmed. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

Detectives are actively working to determine if drugs or alcohol are a factor but they do believe both were wearing their seatbelts.
