Mexican flag ‘proudly raised’ at Fresno City Hall

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Fresno’s Mayor Jerry Dyer acknowledged and celebrated Mexico’s independence from Spain on Monday.

Sept. 16 is recognized annually as Mexican Independence Day; according to the Library of Congress , Mexico’s war for independence from Spain started on Sept. 16, 1810, when the people of the Dolores parish church were urged to take up arms and fight.

On Monday, the City of Fresno along with the Consulado de México raised the Mexican Flag at Fresno City Hall.

“We proudly raised the Mexican flag at City Hall,” Mayor Dyer said in a post to social media.

Fresno’s mayor also added the city not only recognizes the Mexican holiday but honors every one of Mexican descent in the city.

“Celebrating today is not only about the independence of Mexico from Spain but also about honoring and valuing every person of Mexican descent that lives in our city,” Dyer said.
