MERCED, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Several households in Merced were without water Wednesday afternoon while the Public Works Water Division worked to repair a damaged service line.

According to the City of Merced, the emergency water mainline shutdown affected approximately 30 homes on Westminister Court and East Alexander Avenue, between Pecan Avenue and Birmingham Court.

Officials say the shutoff was expected to last until at least 5 p.m. Wednesday while crews work to repair a leak that was detected in a vacated service line.

Drivers were asked to proceed through the area with caution and expect delays while the city works to restore water.
