    Beloved hotel in Yosemite to close indefinitely

    YOSEMITE, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Officials with Yosemite National Park announced on Wednesday the indefinite closure of a historic and beloved hotel.

    The National Park Service announced on social media that starting December 2, the historic Wawona Hotel within Yosemite National Park will close to allow the National Park Service (NPS) to conduct a comprehensive condition assessment on the hotel complex.

    The Wawona Hotel was first established in 1856 and is one of California’s original mountain resort hotels; it came to attract many famous travelers of the day, including President Theodore Roosevelt.

    The National Park Service recently undertook a roof replacement project on the main hotel building, revealing the need for more intensive investigation and assessment of the hotel.

    It is unclear at this time how long the hotel will remain closed.
