2 displaced, firefighter injured after Tower District house fire

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Two people have been displaced and one firefighter was injured after a large fire in the Tower District Tuesday morning in Fresno, according to the Fresno Fire Department.

Firefighters say they received multiple reports of a house on fire in the Tower District around 9:50 a.m. in the 1000 block of north Wilson near Dennett Avenue.

When crews arrived, they say massive smoke was visible.

According to the fire department, early indications show the fire started in the backyard of a home and then spread to the home. The fire also spread through powerlines to an adjacent house, causing damages.

Fire crews say multiple vehicles were in the backyard of the home, which caught fire and possibly caused the large black smoke and an explosion.

Firefighters say over 40 firefighters responded to the scene. One firefighter was injured after part of a ceiling fell onto him, according to the department. He was evaluated on scene.

According to the department, the fire marks the 755th structure fire this year.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
