Two school records were broken at the meet. In the Triple Jump, freshman Claire Person jumped 34-7 ¾ breaking the previous record of 34-7 ½ set by Alyssa Leister in 2011.

Yorktown Head Girls track coach Val Acree said, “Claire is just amazing. She’s been jumping steadily better over the past month and she chose the right time to not only jump a p.r. (personal record), but also break the school record. I hope she does it again at the regional meet!”

The Kitty Kat 4x100m Relay team, made up of Avery Martin, Claire Person, Kendyll Sinast and Nina Villarreal, ran 49.85 seconds breaking the previous record of 50.49 seconds set by Kali Schendel, Kayla Wilms, Erin Schendel and Miranda Gallegos in 2000. Yorktown relay coach Whitney Schroeder said, “I am extremely proud of the girls and what they have accomplished! They have put in countless hours of practice and it took finding the right combination to make this happen.”

Overall, Yorktown Athletic Director and Head Boys track coach Ryan Knostman was very pleased with the results. Knostman said, “The coaching staff is extremely proud of the performance of our Kitty Kats and Wildcats at the area track meet. This group of young men and women have put in the work, day in and day out, often juggling multiple sports, and their dedication is paying off. We look forward to seeing what they can achieve at Regionals.”

The Class 2A-Region IV Track Meet will be April 26 and 27, 2024, at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville, Texas.
