    York teen gunman gets up to life in prison for murdering 16-year-old in 2021

    YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– The teenage gunman who fatally shot a 16-year-old in York County may spend the rest of his life in prison.

    Alexis Cado-Suero, 18, of York, was sentenced to spend between 45 years and life for murdering Tyree Smart, 16, in March 2021, according to the York County District Attorney’s Office .

    Smart was found by York City Police officers on the 300 block of West Newton Avenue just before 3 p.m. suffering from gunshot wounds. He died despite police efforts to save him.

    It wasn’t till a few months later in June when police were able to arrest Cado-Suero . He was caught after an officer heard gunshots and responded to the scene, where they found Cado-Suero who led them on a brief foot chase before he was captured.

    In January, Cado-Suero was found guilty of his charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a minor after a four-day trial.
