Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Receives State Grant to Combat Border Related Crimes

The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors approved the acceptance of a state grant for the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office from the Drug Interdiction Fund, formally known as the Border Strike Force Fund.

The $626,000 from a state appropriation will enhance law enforcement services concerning criminal activities associated with human smuggling and border-related crimes through cooperative efforts with the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The grant will be used to fund four deputy positions as well as equipment such as a vehicle, allowing a greater focus on the ancillary crimes associated with illegal border crossings.

“Crimes related to the border do not stay at the border,” said Sheriff David Rhodes. “We need the ability to focus resources specifically to human and drug smuggling, sex trafficking and cartel related crimes that originate at the border. The funding from this grant is vital to our agency in meeting those needs, so we thank the Legislature and Governor Hobbs for continuing to make these grants available.”
