DeVine opening soon at former View 202 spot in Redding
After months of work repurposing the former View 202 in Redding, DeVine expected to celebrate its grand opening Saturday, Feb. 7. The restaurant, at 202 Hemsted Drive, will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. Ahead of Saturday’s premiere, the restaurant opened its doors to first-responders on Thursday, Feb. 5, serving them a complimentary meal. “This private event is our way of saying thank you for your dedication and bravery in keeping us safe every day,” the restaurant posted on its Facebook page. View 202 closed last September after being in business more than a decade in Redding. The former restaurant opened in 2012. Prior to that, it had been Rivers, which was built and opened after the Hatch Cover restaurant burned down in 2006. Hatch Cover operated there for 28 years. The building was sold last September to 202 Hemsted, a limited partnership, for $1.7 million, according to Shasta County property records. The building’s new owner does not own and operate DeVine, restaurant representatives have said. The Hemsted Drive building went on the market after former owner Joe Wong died in 2024 . The same ownership group that operates DeVine bought the former Dry Creek Station in Bella Vista

Where Whiskeytown is opening miles of trails to bikes, e-bikes
Whiskeytown National Recreation Area outside of Redding has authorized nearly 80 miles of trails for bicycle and e-bike riders as well as pedestrian use, under a new National Park Service rule expanding recreation access. The area is already a popular draw for water sports, hiking, exploring Gold Rush era history and enjoying diverse scenery. Bicycles and e-bikes are also already permitted on many existing trails . The new rule clears the path for bicycle use on the entire planned trail network, after a series of planned trail improvements, new construction, closures and reroutes are finished. The new federal rule authorizing cyclists becomes effective on March 11, the National Park Service said in a statement on Friday, Feb. 6. "Most of these trails were already open to bicycles; a smaller subset, previously designated for hiking only, will be opened after improvements and safety evaluations," said Ana Beatriz Cholo, spokesperson for the National Park Service's Pacific West Region. Approximately 20 miles of trails will involve new construction or significant rerouting and upgrades to meet sustainable design standards for bicycle use, said Cholo. The bulk of the new milage will be the Shasta Divide Trail from the Whiskeytown Visitor Center to Bureau of

Buffalo Wild Wings is a GO at this Redding spot. Retro arcade opens
About a decade ago, construction actually started on a Buffalo Wild Wings in the Target shopping center parking lot between Blimpie Subs and the old Sports Authority. But work stopped after the shopping center’s owners discovered Sports Authority had a clause in its lease that said a restaurant can’t be closer than 300 feet from its front door. Sports Authority ended up closing, and the rumors started flying that Buffalo Wild Wings was getting a new lease on life in Redding. In the ensuing years, Redding’s restaurant market has become saturated with fast-casual chicken restaurants. But no Buffalo Wild Wings. That's about to change. Work has started on a Buffalo Wild Wings on the northwest end of the Target center in a space between Blimpie and Sweet Fitness Kickboxing. But this will not be the Buffalo Wild Wings you might be familiar with. No big screen TVs. No bar. This is the restaurant’s to-go concept, which it launched in 2020. Called Buffalo Wild Wings GO, the Redding location essentially will be for to-go orders only. From my research, it sounds like there could be some dine-in business, but the driver here will be takeout and delivery orders. And no drive-thru.
