YAKIMA - The Martin Luther King Jr. Park Aquatic Center that the community has been asking for is close to coming a reality, and today we're seeing what the reality could look like.
In today's meeting, Yakima city council members are going over a new design showing a possible layout of the pool area and parking lot.
In the photos, you can see the aquatic center will feature multiple pools, a community room and even water slides on the north side of the park.
Officials say the current splash park is going to be removed for extra grass area and may come back some time after the pool is finished.
"Something for the small kids, something for adults with water exercise and swim lessons and water walking and lap swimming, but also some things for the older kids too. Some water volleyball, we've even got a cool little rope swing that we put in and water slides as well so something for everyone to come and have a good time at this pool," Ken Wilkinson, Yakima Parks and Recreation manager, said.
Officials say as of now, there is still no exact date for construction to start.
