DAYTON, OHIO (WKEF/WRGT) - Friday was an eventful night of sports in both Dayton and Cincinnati, from high school student-athletes to the professional level. At Day Air Ballpark, the Dayton Dragons continued their series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels; after falling behind early, the Dragons had the tying run on base but couldn't capitalize as the Kernels won 4-2. The game was followed by a Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest qualifier; Bartley Weaver ate 53 hot dogs in 10 minutes to qualify for the main contest at Coney Island on July 4th. The Dragons and Kernels continue their series Saturday and Sunday.

Six area players received first-team honors as the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association released its all-Ohio teams. Springfield senior pitcher Mady Yackee and Anthony Wayne junior pitcher Katelyn Meyers were first-team honorees in Division I, while Bryan freshman pitcher Thea Staten earned the honor in Division II. In Division III, Evergreen junior catcher Macy Chamberlin and Eastwood senior catcher Delany Maynard were first-team selections.
