The community around a 16-year-old boy who died in a house fire on Sunday is rallying in support of him and his family and friends.
On March 19, Daniel Wyatt Busha died in a house fire that also injured two others. Arriving fire crews found three people outside the burning home when they first arrived to the scene on Brower Lane, but Daniel was not among them. When the fire was contained, his body was found still inside.
A 17-year-old girl was also treated for cuts from a glass window while escaping the home, deputies said. Another man is being treated for smoke inhalation.
A few days later, schools in the area are uniting to show their support. On Tuesday the Fort Chiswell Middle School said their student body, faculty and staff will wear maroon and gray on Wednesday, March 22.
"Our continued thoughts and prayers are with our George Wythe family and with the family of this sweet boy who perished," FCMS said in a Facebook post.
Daniel was a tenth-grader at George Wythe High School, which has been offering extra counselors on-site for students and staff. GWHS offered gratitude for the efforts put forth.
The Wytheville Police Department helped spread the news that the schools would be taking part in the maroon and gray demonstration.
"GWHS, our hearts are 'Wythe' you," WPD said.
