WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — The city of Wyoming has parted ways with its fire chief.

Brian Bennett’s last day was March 7, the city manager’s office confirmed to News 8 Monday.

It’s unclear what led to the separation. The office said it “does not comment on employment matters.”

Reached by phone Monday, Bennett declined to comment.

At a city council meeting, News 8 asked Interim City Manager John McCarter about Bennett’s split from the fire department.

“We don’t discuss personnel matters. We appointed a deputy a public safety director Kip Snyder in charge of the fire bureau going forward,” McCarter said.

Pressed for details, McCarter said the city wishes him well.

“We are not going to get into the specifics with Brian Bennett. We wish Brian well; we wish him luck in his future career and in life generally speaking,” McCarter said.

News 8 also asked Wyoming’s Mayor Kent Vanderwood why Bennett is no longer the Wyoming fire chief.

“This was handled by our city manager and our director of public safety, and it would be inappropriate for me to comment as the mayor because it’s not my department,” Vanderwood said.

Wyoming is preparing to ask voters to approve a public safety millage in the May 2 election. McCarter said the Bennett’s split is not connected with the millage.

Bennett was promoted to fire chief in 2018.
