CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It has been 12 days since there has been any measurable rainfall in western Massachusetts.

September heat follows record-breaking warm August

September is tracking to be one of the driest months on record in western Massachusetts with only .27 inches of rain falling so far and that came on September 7th. There has been a chance for rain on Friday, but the trend has been for most of the rain to be in eastern Massachusetts.

The tropical system that impacted the Carolinas last weekend has moved up the coast but with high pressure off to the west, this has pushed the area of low pressure offshore which will keep the heaviest rain to the east of western Massachusetts.

While there still could be a few showers on Friday, the accumulating rainfall that we need looks to be in coastal New England.
