WEST VIRGINIA (WVNS) — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) released a statement about school threats aimed towards school districts in West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania.

According to a press release, the FBI knows about the school threats aimed at various school districts in both Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. They stated that they are working with members of law enforcement to gather details such as intelligence, sharing information, tracking down leads, and working with partners to find and deal with threats quickly and effectively.

The FBI stated that stating threats that promote violence can violate state and/or federal law, and that anyone found responsible for issuing a threat to a school will be investigated.

FBI Pittsburgh will work with federal, local, and state agencies to use the full extent of the law because threats issued to schools not only disrupt the schools’ schedules, they also waste resources, as well as put innocent people and first responders in danger when it is not necessary.

The press release stated that FBI Pittsburgh advises students, parents, teachers, and administrators to report any suspicious activity that could be a threat to 911, to the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI, or online at tips.fbi.gov.
