Bone-dry pattern continues as summertime heat returns

Tonight features mostly clear skies after a hazy sunset with smoke continuing to move in from the wildfires up in Canada – you won’t notice the smell because the smoke will reside in the upper levels of the atmosphere. It’s not as cold as we’ve seen over the past couple of nights with temperatures bottoming out in the upper 40s. Patchy instances of frost will only be of threat at the highest peaks.
Tuesday continues our warming trend, with a calm wind becoming a light southeast flow allowing temperatures to rebound to around 80 degrees for highs – that’ll be the first day we’ve reached 80 degrees since Friday! Mostly sunny skies with hardly a cloud in the sky is expected but the kiddos will want the jacket for the school bus stop in the morning with temperatures in the 40s.
Wednesday is still dry with high pressure in control and this is the day where we will reach the apex of the heat in the region this week. Plenty of sunshine with just a few fair-weather cumulus clouds will allow high temperatures to jump into the low 80s.
Thursday will see partly sunny skies as Tropical Storm Francine located off the Gulf Coast moves inland with a trough extending out from the system. We will stay dry but this will impact the warm environment that our area of high pressure over the previous two days will have built and keep temperatures slightly cooler, with highs in the upper 70s.
Friday finally sees at least a chance for a couple of showers, with the aforementioned Francine moving farther inland. This system at this point looks to provide nothing more than a few light showers, but it’s better than nothing! We’ll see partly sunny skies with a few showers and highs in the mid 70s.
Saturday continues the risk for a few isolated showers as Francine’s remnants moves into the Ohio River Valley, significantly weakening as it does so. There does not appear to be any reason to cancel any outside plans at this time, as we’re looking at just a few showers amongst partly sunny skies and highs in the mid 70s.
Sunday provides the risk for a couple of showers still yet but overall, we’ll see more dry time than rainy weather with highs in the mid to upper 70s.
Monday continues that isolated risk for showers with highs in the upper 70s.
Looking ahead in your extended forecast, it’s the same song and dance we’ve been talking about all summer: warm and mostly dry. Tuesday and Wednesday could provide an isolated shower chance with highs near 80 before we dry out on Thursday with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid 70s.
