CLINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The South Vermillion Wildcats are hoping that this year’s team can finally be the first one to bring home a sectional championship in football.

Head Coach Greg Barrett enters his 8th season with the school after an 8-2 record a season ago (his most wins in a season as SV’s head coach). Despite the recent regular season success, Barrett says the only thing that matters is postseason performance.

“We’ve done some good things through the season but it’s all about how long you get to play and get deep into the playoffs and that’s our goal,” Barrett said.

The Wildcats are led by a talented group of seniors including quarterback Dominic Garzolini who hopes that the senior leadership can help make some South Vermillion history come playoff time.

“One game at a time but obviously we are focused on the sectionals. That’s a huge part we haven’t done that before at South Vermillion,” Garzolini said.

The Wildcats open the season August 23rd against West Vigo.
