SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A man has been charged with murder after a man injured in a September 5 shooting in Spartanburg County died from his injuries.

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office said 21-year-old Abel Arroyo Yanez died early Sunday morning at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Yanez was shot along West Blackstock Road last Thursday afternoon.

Deputies located the suspected shooter, identified as 25-year-old Cristobal Avila, who was taken to the hospital for treatment of a possible drug overdose.

Avila was then transported to the Spartanburg County Detention Center where he faces the upgraded charge of murder in addition to being charged with possession of a firearm during commission of a violent crime.

The coroner’s office said they will rule on the manner of death in the case once all evidence is presented.
