UPDATE: 31 people arrested in drug trafficking bust by Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, FBI and more

COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — The ongoing law enforcement presence throughout the Columbus area Thursday morning is tied to “authorized arrests and search warrants” involving FBI Atlanta, according to the agency.

A statement released by the FBI specifies the Drug Enforcement Agency is involved, as well as Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies.

The FBI emphasized this activity has “nothing to do with any local schools.”

However, the Muscogee County School District has confirmed all schools have been placed on a soft lockdown due to the FBI presence. This is out of an abundance of caution, according to the district.
Update: The soft lockdown has been lifted as of about 9:45 a.m.

The FBI says there is no reason to be concerned for public safety at this time.
